Nature of request
John Topclyf, sergeant at arms, states that by the grant of the King's father he has occupied the office of serjeant for the commons at all the parliaments for nine years and more, without receiving any fee for this, although previous serjeants at arms have received £10. He asks the commons to ask the King, with the assent of his council, to grant him a fee of £10 annually for as long as he holds this office, to be received from the fee farm of the city of London.
