Nature of request
The Prior and convent of Tynemouth state that their house is one of the powerful fortresses of the north, but that, through flooding and undermining from the sea, its walls have largely collapsed, and their rents are not sufficient to make repairs, as most of them lie near the Scottish march and have been destroyed by the enemies. They request some reasonable aid to enable them to restore their priory and fortress, for their own salvation and that of the surrounding country.
