Description
Petitioners
Abbot of Tintern.
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
Abbot of Tintern
Nature of request
The Abbot of Tintern states that in the King's father's thirtieth year, Roger Bygot, Earl of Norfolk, gave his manor of Acle to the Abbot of Tintern, in pure and perpetual alms. And then in his thirty-third year the late King pardoned the Earl all manner of debts, both his own and those of his ancestors. Nevertheless the Abbot is being distrained by a summons of the Exchequer for the debts of the Earl, and asks that the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer might be ordered to discharge him.
Nature of endorsement
When the rolls of Chancery have been examined, if the charter of confirmation of the King's father and the same King's charter of pardon of debts, as contained in the petition, are found, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered not to molest the said Abbot by demanding any debt of the said Earl from the time before date of the aforesaid charter of pardon.

Acle, Norfolk.
People mentioned
