Description
Petitioners
Ralph de Turvill.
Name(s)
de Turvill, Ralph
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Ralph de Turvill states that Edmund, Earl of Leicester, disseised his father of his wood, called Turvill Wood, in Normanton. Nicholas sued an assize of novel disseisin, but died during his suit, leaving Ralph under age and in the wardship of the Earl of Leicester. When he came of age he sued a writ of entry founded on disseisin against Edmund's son and heir, Thomas of Lancaster, but because Thomas had full return of all writs brought in his lordship, he could make no progress. Now the wood is in the King's hand because of Thomas' forfeiture, and he requests the King's grace on the truth of this.
Nature of endorsement
He is to sue at common law because the King has returned the lands and tenements to Henry of Lancaster.
Places mentioned
