Nature of request
The Abbot of Tilty states that the Sheriff of Essex has instructions from the Exchequer to levy a debt owed to the merchants of Lucca, which the King's father had seized into his hand, although that debt was paid in the King's father's twenty-fourth year, and letters of acquittance given, which were examined and enrolled in the Exchequer in the Michaelmas term of the present King's eleventh year. He asks the King to have the process made on these letters brought before the council and examined, as the Abbot has been adjourned to this parliament, and to give him his grace on the matter.
Nature of endorsement
The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have examined the record and process, they are to do on this matter what seems to them to be done, according to the law and custom of the land.
