Nature of request
William de Tyndale states that he was appointed Sheriff of Northumberland a year ago last Michaelmas, against his will, and has been charged until last New Year for his Undersheriff, clerks, gaoler, and porter, as well as for other things, making a sum so large that he cannot pay half of it, and can no allowance in the Exchequer for any of his costs. He requests a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to discharge him of the wages for the ministers listed above in the debt he owes the King.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege et magno consilio.He is to have a writ to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to allow him such wages as have been allowed to other Sheriffs before now.
Note
The petitioner was Sheriff of Northumberland between 8 October 1331 and 14 December 1332. From the mention of 'la seint Michel qe avoit un an' and 'lan renoelf drein passe', this petition would seem to date from late 1332 or early to mid 1333.
