Nature of request
The Prior of Thetford and the Prior of Bermondsey state that the recent ordinance that all French in England should leave the realm had made an exception for conventual religious, for term of their lives, and that provision had been made for the visitation of houses of the Cluniac order by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Priors of Thetford and Bermondsey, as these houses are outwith any Episcopal jurisdiction. The Priors now ask permission to make such a visitation.
Nature of endorsement
It is agreed that the supplicants may exercise the jurisdiction granted to them by the Holy Father during the schism as the Abbot of Cluny and the Prior of La Charité would duly have done if there had been no schism, saving always to the King and to the other founders and patrons of the alien and denizen priories and houses, their inheritances, rights, patronages and advowsons in them.
