Description

Name(s)
de Preston, Alice
Addressees
King and council in parliament.
Nature of request
Alice, widow of Peter de Preston, states that she sued a writ of appeal against William Teneyt of Sandwich for the death of her husband, and that process continued until he was outlawed. Because he had taken refuge in the Cinque Ports, a writ was issued to the Earl of Cambridge to seize him, but, when the Earl's ministers seized him at Dover, to bring him before the King, John Strete, Mayor of Dover and Walter Rauf, Bailiff of Dover rescued him by force; and they have since ignored a writ ordering them to bring him before the King to answer to Alice. William is still at large in Sandwich. Alice asks for a remedy, in maintenance and fulfilment of the law.
