Nature of request
Robert, Abbot of Tavistock, states that the tin-miners of Devon, who are in his keeping at the King's pleasure, have been quit of all manner of taxes, tallages and customs on their own goods from time immemorial, as the charter of Edward I and the confirmation of the present King attest, but that they are now being distrained for the twelfth, eighteenth and sixteenth. He asks that they might be discharged of these taxes.

Coram rege.They are to show their charters in Chancery, and for the tin-miners working in the stannaries they are to have writs in due form according to the points of their charters.

CPR 1317-21 p.537 is dated 27 July 1320, and the petition would seem to date from about this time, as the taxes complained about would seem to be the eighteenth and twelfth of 1319, and the sixteenth and fifteenth of 1316. Robert Campell died in 1325.
