[c. 1307-c. 1327]
Description
Petitioners
People of Sutton.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The people of Sutton propose various means by which they might pay their rent to the King, instead of to the Prior of Sutton and to Ralph de Vautort as they do at present, and urge him to accept these.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Sutton Prior, [Devon]
Plympton, [Devon]
Sutton Vautort, [Devon].
People mentioned
The Prior of Plympton
Ralph de Vautort.
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1318, with reference to CIM 1307-49 no.325, an inquisition into whether it would be to anyone's harm if the town of Sutton became a free borough: but the Vautorts mentioned do not include Ralph, and in any case this does not seem directly relevant. The petition is more safely dated to circa Edward II's reign.
