Reference
SC 8/143/7105
Date
[1324-1325]
Description
Petitioners
People of Scarborough.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
[The entire right side of this petition is missing.]The petitioners state that wool from Wals and Blakey Moor cannot be carried to Kingston upon Hull without great harm to the people of the country, and to the King, especially as wool can easily be taken to Flanders from the smaller ports on the coast, with the customs paid. Therefore they request a tron at Scarborough to weigh the wool, so that he can have his customs there.
Nature of endorsement
It is to be inquired into by people both from Kingston upon Hull and from Scarborough if it is to the advantage [or the harm of the King, or of anyone else, and when the inquisition has been returned [justice] is to be done].
Places mentioned
Scarborough, [North Riding of Yorkshire]
Kingston upon Hull, [East Riding of Yorkshire]
[Wals [unidentified], [North Riding of Yorkshire]]
[Blakey Moor, North Riding of Yorkshire]
[Flanders].
Note
Dated in Rot. Parl. vol. I p.422b (no. 22) to 1324-1325, which seems a reasonable date in the light of the hand and language. It also agrees with SC 8/8/365.
