Description

Nature of request
The Prior and convent of Our Lady of Southwark state that, by a fine levied in the court of Henry III, between Stephen, then Prior, and Robert de Caunvyll, lord of the manor of Westerham, that manor was charged to the Prior with 20s. of annual rent. However, since the manor has been in the hands of the Abbot of Westminster, this rent has been withheld. The Prior sued a novel disseisin before the justices in Eyre at Canterbury, but it has been delayed as the Abbot has produced the King's charter and said that he cannot be judged there. He requests a remedy, so that his church is not disinherited.
