Nature of request
Walter de Sutton and Joan his wife state that they presented a petition to the King's parliament at Westminster, complaining that John, Bishop of Bath and Wells, and others had disseised them of their rights of common pasture in Cheddar, belonging to their free tenement in Alston Sutton, and that their writs of novel disseisin had been delayed by the Bishop. This was endorsed that the justices were to proceed in the assize and to do justice to the parties, and they were granted a writ to the justices to do so. However they have not done so for various reasons [which are unclear, due to damage to the ms.]: the petitioners ask that they be ordered to take the assize.
