[c. 1376]
Description
Petitioners
William de Septvantz, knight.
Name(s)
de Septvantz, William
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
William de Septvantz, knight, states that when he made a release to John atte Lee of his rights in the manor of Wigborough in Essex, the King promised him that he would have the true value of this manor, and that afterwards, in the presence of the council, John atte Lee returned the release to him, at the King's command, stating that he had no other release for that manor. Now Walter atte Lee, his son and heir, has produced a release, which he claims to be this one, and has expelled William from the manor. William asks that it might be established in this present parliament that the release was returned, and that he might be restored to his inheritance.
Nature of endorsement
[None]

Note
The various documents in CCR 1374-7 pp.463-464 are dated 1 December 1376: this petition would seem likely to date from around the same time. This is confirmed by the mention of John Knyvet, who was Chancellor of England between July 1372 and January 1377. The order to take the manor into the King's hand (CCR 1369-74 pp.9-10) is dated 16 February 1369, and the order to deliver it to the petitioner (CCR 1369-74 pp.9-10) is dated 21 February 1369.
