Nature of request
William Abbot of South Kelsey states that after the inquest had been held in a plea of trespass in King's Bench in which he impleaded William de Redenesse of Aunsby, Margaret his wife, William and John his sons, and Gilbert Fitz Eustace of Aunsby and Maud his wife, Hervey de Staunton became Chief Justice of King's Bench, and would not render judgment because no date or place was mentioned in the writ of nisi prius which had been issued to hold it - although William claims that it is not usual to put a date or place in such a writ. He requests a writ to Hervey and his companions to render judgment.

Note
Hervey de Staunton was appointed Chief Justice of the King's Bench in July 1323. The judgment in William Abbot's case was to have been given a month after the Michaelmas before this petition was presented - this must then have been Michaelmas 1323, and this petition must date from 1323-1324.
