Description
Petitioners
Prioress and convent of Stainfield.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The Prioress and convent of Stainfield state that when the Archbishop of York had been given a commission to assess all the churches in the archdeaconry of York which had been burnt, robbed and destroyed by the Scots, their church of Gisburn was left off the certification of these churches through the negligence of a clerk, William Pedefer. As soon as their proctor knew off this he asked the Archbishop to reinstate them: but the Archbishop had already sent the certification to the Barons of the Exchequer, so that they can have no remedy without a new writ of Chancery, which cannot be granted without orders from the King and council. They therefore request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
A new commission is to be granted to the Archbishop of York for the Prioress of Stainfield, to re-assess the Prioress' share in the church of Gisburn etc.
