Description

Nature of request
The sick brothers of the Hospital of St Julian outside St Albans state that although their hospital was founded by one Geoffrey, Abbot of St Albans, the present Abbot is harassing and oppressing them, and acting contrary to their charters and privileges in many ways; and now, because of certain claims on behalf of the estate of their house made by some of them before the Abbot, he has ordered them to leave and to give him the keys of their chambers, and of their common coffer; and because they would not do this, he has had certain people, whom they name, throw them out by force, break into their house, and take their possessions; and the Abbot has carried off their charters. They request upright men and loyal justices to inquire into the truth of these molestations, and of other things of which they will inform them, and to do full justice to them.
