Nature of request
Thomas de Stanley, Dean of the free chapel of St Martin the Great of London, states that it is too poor to support the vicars, thurifers and choristers serving God there, that it would take more money than it has to repair its property, and that the chapel is indebted to its ministers to the sum of 100 marks. He asks that he might be able to appropriate the church of St Botolph without Aldersgate, which is of his own advowson, and that he and his successors might be able to hold it, served by a parish chaplain, to support the charges. He also asks that this might be done without paying a fine, and that the King might write to the Pope to grant this.
