Description

Thomas Skynner (Skinner).
Name(s)
Skynner (Skinner), Thomas
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Thomas Skynner states that by a false inquest before the Escheator of Essex in Richard II's twenty-second year, it was found that the manor of West Tilbury was held of the King in chief, and that it had been given to Thomas without the Kings' permission; whereupon it was taken into the King's hand and given to William Serle for term of life. He states that the manor was held of the Earl of Oxford, of the honour of Rayleigh, and not of the King in chief, and requests a scire facias to William Serle, or to anyone else to whom the manor has been granted, to produce evidence for why the letters patent for Richard's grant ought not to be annulled, and the manor, with the issues and profits in the meantime, returned to the petitioner. He also asks that the Chancellor might be ordered to do justice in this matter.

He is to sue in Chancery where the matter is pending, and justice will be done to him.
