Reference
SC 8/142/7054
Date
[1440-1460]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas Scales, Lord Scales.
Name(s)
Scales; Lord Scales, Thomas
Addressees
Council.
Places mentioned
France
Normandy, [France].
Nature of request
Lord Scales asks the council to consider his service to the King in France, for which he has had no reward except £100 annually on the Exchequer, which is not always well paid, and which is likely to be taken from him by the current act of resumption, unless he has the council's favour.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] It is thought by the lords that this should not be agreed to in this way; but that the King should be requested to have him recommended for his good service in France and Normandy.[None on dorse].
Note
CPR 1436-41 p.425 is dated 2 July 1440: the petition must date from after this. It is possible that the exemption requested is from the 1450 act of resumption (Rot. Parl. vol. V, p.188b): but as the response seems to suggest that this was not granted, it is perhaps more probable that it is from a later act.
