[This petition is damaged.] Robert Sherwynd, mercer of London, states that he became pledge and mainpernor [for Thomas Stanle, late Treasurer of Calais, for £500] for the purveyance of victuals for the town in the time of Richard II, for which he had a tally to the then collectors of customs at Southampton, [to ship a certain quantity of wools] in the ports of Southampton, Chichester [and Ipswich, quit of subsidy]. He requests the King's letters patent to do this.
