Name(s)
Schirburn; Elizabeth; Schirburn, William
Addressees
[Humphrey of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester, Guardian of England and the lords of parliament.

Nature of request
William and Elizabeth Schirburn state that through Thomas atte Mill, her first husband, Elizabeth was seised of various lands and tenements in Mitcheldean in Gloucestershire before the King's crossing to Normandy, until 10 October in the King's fifth year, when one Hugh Cromale of Gloucestershire disseised her, and carried off various goods and chattels belonging to her; which he wrongly withholds. The petitioners cannot have justice because of maintenance. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] By the Lieutenant, 15 December.[None on dorse.]
Places mentioned
London
Mitcheldean, Gloucestershire
Normandy, [France].
People mentioned
[Humphrey of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester
Thomas atte Mill, former husband of Elizabeth Schirburn
Hugh Cromale of Gloucestershire
Robert Greyndore, esquire.
Note
Dated on the guard to '?1417-1422' with reference to the Duke of Gloucester as Guardian of England. The seizure of Elizabeth's land took place in 5 Henry V (21 March 1417-20 March 1418). This petition would therefore seem to come from the parliament of December 1420, over which the Duke of Gloucester presided. The date of 15 December mentioned on the face confirms this.
