Thomas Smyth, vicar of St Clement's, Sandwich, requests the King's letters patent granting him and his successors the right to receive and hold lands, tenements, rents and other possessions, and to acquire lands and rents in Sandwich to the value of 4 marks annually, notwithstanding the statute against putting lands and tenements into mortmain, in order that he might acquire a house to live in, as the church does not have one.
