Reference
SC 8/141/7005
Date
[? 1305]
Description
Petitioners
John de Belhous (Bellhouse), son of Thomas de Bellhouse.
Name(s)
de Belhous (Bellhouse), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioner states that he is joint purchaser with his father of the manor of Newington in the county of Kent, and that he pays for this manor its true value for the debt owed by his father from the time when he was Sheriff of Cambridgeshire. He cannot continue to pay this and support his wife, children and mother, and asks that he might pay the debt by instalments.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ of Chancery to the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer that, when they have examined his charter of joint feoffment etc., they are to do according to what is rightly to be done, and according to what has hitherto been in use in the realm. And this is to be by the counsel of the justices.
Places mentioned
Neweton (Newington), Kent.
People mentioned
Thomas de Belhous (Bellhouse), formerly Sheriff of Cambridgeshire.
Note
The related petition from Thomas de Belhous' widow printed in Memoranda de Parliamento pp.105-107 (no. 178) (SC 8/1/31) can clearly be dated to the Lent parliament of 1305 by its inclusion on a roll of petitions from that parliament. Its endorsement is identical to that of this petition, which would seem to suggest that the two were presented together.
