SC 8/129/6436
Date
[? c. 1329]
Description
Petitioners
People of Northumberland.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The people of Northumberland request that all rents, farms and other debts due to the king, respited until Easter next, continue to be respited until he receives the results of an enquiry into their ability to pay (a copy of the writ ordering this enquiry is attached). When this has reported, they ask that they then be pardoned these amounts due to their great poverty.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Northumberland.
Note
An enquiry into the ability of the people of Northumberland to pay certain debts was ordered on 20 November 1329. If this is the enquiry concerned here, it had clearly not reported when the petition was presented, and the tone of the petition suggests it had not yet been ordered. If so, the petition probably dates from 1329 or slightly earlier.
