Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/129/6416
Date
[c. 1322]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Neuport and Joan de Neuport, his wife.
Name(s)
de Neuport; de Neuport, Richard; Joan
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Richard and Joan de Neuport request the recovery of property in East Farleigh which, with other property in Maidstone and Boughton Monchelsea, had previously been the subject of an assize of novel disseisin brought by Joan against Colpiper and the Maidstones. This East Farleigh property had been recovered by Colpiper, but had been taken into the king's hands following Colpiper's forfeiture.
Nature of endorsement
Order the justices before whom the assize was taken to bring the record and process of the assize into Chancery, and when it has been viewed justice will be done to the petitioners.
Places mentioned
Kent
Maidstone, [Kent]
Boughton Monchelsea, [Kent]
East Farleigh, [Kent].
People mentioned
John de Bousser, justice
Walter de Maydenstan (Maidstone)
Rose [de Maydenstan (Maidstone)], wife of Walter de Maydenstan
Walter Colpiper (Culpepper).
Note
John de Bousser held assizes in Kent between 10 Edward II (1316-17) and 2 Edward III (1328-9). However the reference to the forfeiture of Walter Culpepper would suggest a date in or shortly after 1322, the time of the Lancaster rebellion.
