Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/129/6411
Date
[c. 1333]
Description
Petitioners
Richard de Crendon, Abbot of Notley.
Name(s)
de Crendon, Richard
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The Abbot of Notley states that the king has recently ordered him to accept Dycoun to a corrody in succession to Bacheler, but that he appealed this order claiming that his house should not provide this. He appeared before the justices, and showed his charters and the king's confirmation, and was ordered to appear before Parliament. He therefore requests that the king view the record of that process, and do right to him, so that he is no longer charged with this corrody.
Nature of endorsement
If the king wishes to charge his house contrary to the tenor of the charters of foundation and do other than he ought, then he should have his defence according to the law ordained in this case.
Places mentioned
Notley Abbey, [Buckinghamshire].
People mentioned
Richard Dycoun, valet of the buttery
John Bacheler
[Edward II], King of England
Ralph de Neville.
Note
An order to the Abbot of Notley to admit Dycoun to the corrody was issued on 20 October 1332. Assuming this is the original order (rather than a later one confirming the grant after these events were resolved), this would appear to date the Abbot's appearance in court to January 1333, and would suggest that the petition dates to 1333 or shortly thereafter.
