Reference
SC 8/128/6393
Date
[1344]
Description
Petitioners
Abbot and Convent of Newbo.
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
The Abbot and Convent of Newbo state that they have not yet received payment for wool taken from them for the King's use by Wolsthorp, payable at Easter and Michaelmas 1341. They therefore ask that they receive payment, or be allowed the equivalent sums against their payments towards the triennial tenths granted in the present parliament.
Nature of endorsement
View the patent, and order the Treasurer and Chamberlains to make the necessary payment or make assignments to the Abbot.
Places mentioned
Newbo, [Lincolnshire]
Kesteven, Lincolnshire.
People mentioned
Roger de Wolsthorp.
Note
The petition refers to the original repayments as being due in 1341 (the promise was given on 18 February 1341). Three clerical tenths were granted in June 1344 (by convocation rather than parliament), and this is presumably the tax referred to here, since the next such grant was not until 1370. This would indicate that the petition was presented to the parliament of June 1344.
