Nature of request
John de Mounteney makes two requests.1) Mounteney requests remedy against Sparke, stating that he enfeoffed Sparke with lands and tenements in Writtle, with the intention that after 40 days Sparke would enfeoff the lands back to him and his wife. However, Sparke, colluding with FitzWilliam, enfeoffed FitzWilliam instead, thus disinheriting Mounteney.2) He states that FitzWilliam, abusing his office, sent Pingkenore to arrest him, and kept him prisoner in Colchester castle for 27 weeks. During this time FitzWilliam, Sparke and Hardy broke into his house, attacked his wife and children, and stole goods worth £40 and various charters, including a bond between him and Sparke for £300.

Commissions of oyer et terminer relating to the events detailed in the second of these petitions were issued on 4 August 1309 and 10 March 1310, and presumably the petition dates to this same period.
