Description
Petitioners
Warden and Scholars of Merton College, Oxford.
Addressees
Council and Lords in Parliament.
Nature of request
The warden and scholars of Merton College, Oxford, request that the King include the text of the attached bill in the forthcoming Act of Resumption. They state that, at the King's request, they granted various Cambridgeshire lands of their foundation to Somerset and Langton, to the use of King's College, Cambridge, in exchange for the manor of Stratton St Margaret, on the understanding that if that manor was taken from them, those lands would be restored. However, this provision was overturned by the Bury Parliament of 1447, and now that the King is being petitioned to pass an act of resumption, they request that this grant, and 100s rent which they receive from a corrody granted to the Abbot of Glastonbury, be exempted from the Act.
