Nature of request
The people of Marton, Whittery, Little Weston, Priestweston, Timberth, Brompton and elsewhere in the king's land of Montgomery in Shropshire state that, during the Welsh war, the Master Forester of Corndon was granted a tax ('puture') to guard the border against the Welsh and to keep the peace. This was replaced by a local tax called 'serjauntespein', but since the war the Master Foresters have continually levied the tax, without undertaking the tasks for which it is paid. The people therefore request remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Assign faithful men in Chancery to enquire in the presence of the keeper and the foresters concerning the truth of the matters in this petition and other articles, and let the inquisition be returned and the king be certified.
