Nature of request
Richard de Marnham requests that right be done regarding his case against the Prior of Sandwell. He states that he was wrongly convicted of illegal fishing in the Thames on the false procurement of the then Prior and two monks, even though he and his ancestors had always enjoyed free fishing in that part of the river, and had been sent to prison in Stafford, causing him damages of £40.

Note
This is clearly a stray plaint from the Staffordshire eyre of 1293, the other plaints for which are now in JUST 1/1553 (with further strays elsewhere). The eyre took place between 7 and 22 January 1293 in Lichfield, and 27 January and 25 February 1293 in Stafford (D. Crook, Records of the General Eyre, p.176). The case also appears in the records of the assizes; for details see G Wrottesley (ed.), 'Plea Rolls of the Reign of Edward I', Collections for a History of Staffordshire, VI:I (1885), p.224.
