Nature of request
Nicholas Maudyt states that Longe, with five ships, seized a ship of certain Dutch merchants, and was ready to make fine with him over this, but then said that he dare not leave Rye without a warrant from the constable of Dover. Hayward, who was master of the lead ship, then came to the house where Maudyt and the merchants were staying in order to seize them, and Loof and others lay in wait outside the town in order to kill them. He requests that various people who were masters and crew of the ships be arrested and punished as an example to all the malefactors.
