Reference
SC 8/127/6322
Date
[1322]
Description
Petitioners
Hugh de Meynill and Joan de Meynill, his wife.
Name(s)
de Meynill; de Meynill, Hugh; Joan
Addressees
King and Council.
Nature of request
Hugh and Joan de Meynill request the restoration of their manor of Yeaveley. The manor had been leased to Richard Foun for the term of his life by Hugh's father, with reversion to Hugh and Joan, but has now been seized into the king's hands following Foun's death at Caverswall, as it was thought Foun was an adherent of the Earl of Lancaster.
Nature of endorsement
Let him have a writ to bring the said foot of fine, and let Richard's tenure of the manor be investigated, and let justice be done in the Chancery.
Places mentioned
Yeaveley, Derbyshire
Careswelle (Caverswall), [Staffordshire].
People mentioned
Hugh de Meynill, father of the petitioner
Richard Foun, steward of the Earl of Lancaster of the honour of Leicester
[Thomas of Lancaster], Earl of Lancaster.
Note
Orders to restore the manor to Foun's widow were issued on 8 August 1322, and for restoration to Hugh and Joan on 12 November 1322. It would appear that the petition dates from the intervening period.
