[Much of this petition is missing or illegible]John and Elizabeth le Mareschal appear to request the restoration of their manor of Chancton, and their goods and chattels, taken into the king's hands.

Let them have a writ from Chancery to the escheator, ordering him to certify why he took the manor, goods and chattels into the king's hands, and let them bring the certification and let right be done.

An order to restore this manor and the goods to the petitioners was issued on 20 July 1343, following an inquisition held on 20 April. The entire episode, involving an alleged felony and Mareschal escaping from Guildford gaol, is detailed in CCR 1343-6, pp.160-1.
