Nature of request
William de Mereu, merchant of Genoa, requests remedy concerning goods stolen from him and his colleagues by people of Southampton. He states that they came to Southampton, unloaded their cargo, paid their customs and took the goods to the house of Henry de Lyme for safety. However, a group of people, later found by enquiry to have been Barflete and his companions, broke into the house and stole goods to the value of 300 marks. Some of their goods have been found in the hands of John le Barbier, bailiff of Southampton, and others in the hands of various people in Chichester.
