Nature of request
William de Mereu, merchant of Genoa, states that he and his companions came to Southampton with their merchandise, harness and armour, and lodged peacefully at the house of Henry de Lyme. However, the Mayor and Bailiff of Southampton came there, and took away their armour, enough for sixteen men, worth over £25. They went to the Mayor, who said that they should be paid £18, and that he would levy the sum from the town, but they have received nothing, and therefore request payment.
