John de Malteby states that he was travelling peaceably with Walter de Toutheby close to Worksop, when they were attacked by John, son of William de Gaitford. He requests justices to hear and determine this case, as he is unable to sue outside the county.

A reference to this petition is found on the roll of the parliament of May 1319 (Docs. Illus. English History, p.52). The names of the justices were clearly changed, the extant names matching those given on the parliament roll.
