Nature of request
John de Cotoun and Gilbert de Mordon, former sheriffs of London and Middlesex, request that they be discharged all sums demanded from them above the £300 for which the sheriffs of London are usually charged, as stated in the charters of the King's progenitors which the King has confirmed. The discharge cannot be granted by the Exchequer without a warrant from the King.
Nature of endorsement
It seems to the Council that it should be done as the King wishes; therefore before the KingIt pleases [the King].
Note
The resultant order the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer was issued on 10 March 1327. Presumably the petition was presented to the January parliament of 1327. Cotoun and Mordon were sheriffs from Michaelmas 1325 to Michaelmas 1326.
