Nature of request
John, son of Walter de Montgomery, requests pardon for the killing in self-defence of Stephen, son of Roger de Montgomery. This is found by an inquisition taken by Bogo de Knoville, as this occurred in the March, in his jurisdiction and outside the county. Knoville is unwilling to do anything without the permission of the King and his council.
