[The lords appear to be requesting that the holders of various Scottish lordships be allowed to inherit those honours despite earlier prohibitions. However, the petition is badly stained, and sections of the text, particularly the first three lines, are largely illegible.]

According to a note on the guard, this forms the eighth of a file of ten petitions presented to the 1397 Parliament, seven of which are printed in Rot. Parl. Vol. III, pp.447-8 (mis-dated there to 1399). Three of the ten (originally 7, 8 and 9), were deemed illegible by the editors of Rot. Parl. and not transcribed there, although the response to the entire file is given.
