Nature of request
The petitioners request that cases brought against them in Chancery by Cavendish and others be discharged. They state that they acted together for the King as guardians of the coast between Winchelsea and Berwick, but that Cavendish and others have sued them in Chancery for losses they have sustained at the hands of the enemy on the seas. They state that others undertaking such offices have never been held responsible for such losses in the past.
