Nature of request
John de Moubray states that he does not possess sufficient lands to maintain his dignity of an Earl, and also complains that Ralph Basset, keeper of some of his estates, has committed a variety of wastes, sales and destructions in those lands. He therefore requests that the King grant him sufficient lands to maintain his estate and sustain him and his brother, and also repeal his letters patent granting to Basset the keeping of the lands and lordship of Bramber.
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the matter of waste, sue in the Chancery and right will be done there, and concerning the castle let the King be informed by inquest or other manner of the damage and losses while the castle was in the King's hands, and let due redress be made. And concerning the grant of lands and tenements, when the waste has been adjudged, sue to the King's grace.
