Nature of request
Francis, Prior of Montacute requests remedy, stating that, while he was granted the keeping of his priory by Edward III on account of the war, the keeping of the priory (but not the governance) has since been granted to the Earl of Salisbury. However, he states that he has also been ousted as prior by Hornyk, who now calls himself prior, against the King's orders and contrary church law.

Commissioners to reinstate Francis as prior were appointed on 6 December 1385, probably in response to this petition. However, the issue was still not resolved in September 1386 (see SC 8/250/12495) or December 1386, when protection was given to the monks while custody was decided.
