Nature of request
Rose Monforde (Montfort) states that she and her husband bought the wardship and marriage of Eleanor and Elizabeth, her daughters by Nicholas Dervasalle (Durvassal) and heirs to the manor of Spernall, from Henry de Arderne. However, they were forcefully disseised by William Dervasalle (Durvassal), at the procurement of Arderne. They sued an assize of novel disseisin, and an inquest was ordered into the matter. However, due to the threats made by Dervasalle, the jurors dare not present their findings, and Rose therefore seeks remedy, as she dare not pursue this at common law.
Nature of endorsement
Send writs under the great seal to Henry and William, ordering them to be before the King on Monday in the Feast of St Clement next following [1377], under pain of £300, to respond on this matter.On which Monday the said Nicholas [recte William?] appealed in Chancery did not come, and therefore let another writ of sicut alias be issued, that he should be before the King at the octave of saint ...

This petition was presumably submitted to one of the two parliaments of 1377, as the first endorsement refers to the summoning of the defendants before the King on 23 November 1377, with the second endorsement being added later. A commission of enquiry into this matter was ordered on 20 February 1378.
