Reference
SC 8/125/6214
Date
[c. 1381]
Description
Petitioners
Richard Tysho (Tisho), parson of Napton on the Hill.
Name(s)
Tysho (Tisho), Richard
Addressees
King and Council.
Occupation
parson of Napton on the Hill
Nature of request
Richard Tysho requests remedy in his dispute with the Prior of Coventry. He states that the Prior and others forced the exhumation of a body from his church, and committed other offences against him, but they argued that the matter was spiritual, and his suit against them was denied. The parties then made accords, and the King prohibited them from taking the case outside the realm, but the Prior has now sued a case against him in the Roman Curia, contrary to the agreement, but he dare not challenge this in Rome due to the King's prohibition.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned
Napton on the Hill, [Warwickshire]
Northampton, [Northamptonshire]
Rome, [Italy].
People mentioned
[William de Greneburgh], Prior of Coventry.
Note
A writ of supersedeas was issued to the justices on 6 September 1381, regarding the petitioner's suit against the attackers, who had sued a writ of praemunire against him in order to disrupt his case. The Northampton parliament (August-December 1380) found that the praemunire charge was false, and notification that proceedings on this charge were suspended was made on 20 November 1381. Presumably the petition dates from around this time.
