Note (Additional information about the record)
- Margaret is not known to have used the title of Countess of Norfolk until 1377. In similar petitions at SC 8/125/6209, SC 8/125/6211 and SC 8/129/6440, Margaret petitions for the same office alongside her grandson, John Hastings Earl of Pembroke (d.1389). However, it seems unlikely that any of these petitions date to any time after June 1385, when the office of Marshal was granted to another of her grandchildren, Thomas Mowbray, Earl of Nottingham. Given that she petitions here alone, this petition probably dates from around 1377, when she made her first attempt to secure the title.
