Date

Description
Petitioners
Robert de la Mare of Aldermaston, esquire.
Name(s)
Mare, Robert
Addressees
King and Lords in Parliament.
Nature of request
[This petition is damaged and much of the text is missing.]Robert de la Mare requests examination of the records of process and judgment in a legal case. He appears to state that various people attacked him at Aldermaston, contrary to the terms of recognisances which he and these others had entered into regarding the keeping of the peace.
Nature of endorsement
[on face] For the Chancellor 11 February.
Places mentioned
Aldermaston, Berkshire
Reading, [Berkshire].
People mentioned
John atte Hache of Reading, gentleman
John Coke of Aldermaston, yeoman
John Messangere of Aldermaston, yeoman
Henry [V], King of England
Robert Sampson.
Note
Robert de la Mare was lord of Aldermaston between 1404 and 1431, and, given the handwriting, the reference to the eighth year of the reign of 'King Henry, father of the present king' clearly dates the petition to the reign of either Henry V or Henry VI. The petition bears similar damage to a number of other petitions from the 1427-8 parliament (for example see SC 8/121/6007, 6008, 6011, SC 8/124/6187), while the endorsement of 11 February would indicate that it dates from the second session of that Parliament (27 January - 25 March 1428).
