Description
Petitioners
Andrew de Londres (Loundres, London), son of John de Londres.
Name(s)
de Londres (Loundres, London), Andrew
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Andrew de Londres seeks the restoration of a tenement in Marygate in Berwick, bought by his father after he married Alice, his mother, and leased at farm to Nicholas de Marre. The tenement is now in the king's hands due to the forfeiture of Marre, but the rent should revert to Andrew, as the purchase was made in the time of his mother, and Andrew was in the town when it was handed over.
Nature of endorsement
It is said that John was seised of the tenement of the grant of Alexander de Rikelyngton, who had it of the grant of Philip de Ryedale, who was seised at the time of King Alexander. John granted the tenement to the said Nicholas, rendering 20s a year to John and his heirs, who held it until it was taken into the king's hands on Nicholas' forfeiture. From that time the rent has been retained by the sheriff, and Andrew is the son of the said John, is within age and was in the town of Berwick at the time of its handover, and should have the rent according to the custom of the town as his heir, as John did not return.Let him have a writ to the sheriff of Berwick to deliver the said rent to him, and nothing else in the king's hands, holding it as the said John did, saving to the king and anyone else.
