[c. 1340-c. 1361]
Description
Petitioners
Thomas de Lambourne of Essex.
Name(s)
de Lambourne, Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
Essex
Canewdon, [Essex]
Rochford hundred, [Essex].
Nature of request
Thomas de Lambourne prays remedy, as he has been assessed for 20 librates of land at two hobelars, whereas the lands are not worth more than £2 per annum, and part of this land lies on the coast at Canewdon in the hundred of Rochford.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
From the handwriting, the petition would seem to date to the mid-fourteenth century. Thomas de Lambourne died in September 1361 (CIPM, XI, no.106). A large scale assessment to provide hobelars for the king's armies was implemented in 1345-6 (the time of the Crecy campaign), and this assessment may possibly date from that time.
